"First" Blog Mob Official Meeting

Still growing with highs hopes and strong spirits.
Here are some things brought up in the meeting today:
  • Fund raising - once we have an audience this should be easy, throw up a couple links for people to click on and raise funds from that. But for now, getting started, we need IDEAS. So please, if you have any awesome fundraiser ideas or know of an eating establishment that will provide us with free food to entice new members, let's get on it!
  • Flyers - We'll get the colored paper to spread the word, but we need a design! Send in your suggestions; the more original the better.
  • Other Orgs - It would be an honor to host the blogs of the many wonderful and unique organizations at UGA. Let's contact other organizations about joining in on the growing UGA Dawgosphere. If you're already a officer of an organization or even just a member please feel free to join Blog Mob to get the word out about your club.
  • Interesting Blogs - If you see these point them out! We're always looking for new examples/role models for professional blogging.
And things I just thought of/forgot to mention before:
  1. Points/Rewards system - Once we get some fundraising underway we'll def try to start this. Things you'll be awarded kudos for include blogging regularly, commenting on others blogs, having an amazing layout, etc. Prizes to be announced....
  2. Encourage - What's doesn't waste paper or cost money and is the best possible form of advertisement? Word of Mouth If you're speaking to someone about something they're really enthusiastic about please encourage them to blog about it...and then they can send us a link to their site and join the Mob!

Rough Draft Meeting and More Reasons to Blog

So I held the first meeting on Tuesday and it was amazing. A small group of us talked about what all we could do to promote and ideas we could put into motion to get this started and once this thing starts rolling.
Here they are:

  • Speak to the alumni association about mentioning our organization to all the wonderfully intelligent graduates of UGA. A little birdie told me there are a lot out there that use blogging as a way to be heard and express themselves outside of the hustle and bustle of everyday life. And they would LOVE feedback. (This little birdie is real and has a name but I don't want to mention it just in case :))
  • Help high school students get involved. Cuz you know when you're in high school you have so much to say and not that many people to listen. Especially ones interested in journalism and such would really be an asset to the blogging community.
  • Put up flyers. I know this seems like a given...and it is, I really would like to see some Blog Mob flyers around campus...BUT I would LOVE some help so please let me know if you're interested.
  • A/V equipment isn't a guarantee when you get a room at the SLC. I guess I should have known better but next time I hope to have it up and running.
  • PLEASE SEND ME YOUR BLOG LINKS. Honestly guys...I need your help because atm this is a kinda sorry excuse for a mob.

Decisions decisions, which host to use?

So it's a beautiful day. You're settling down to your computer to post your first blog, and suddenly you realize you have nowhere to to post it! Don't worry your pretty little head because there's a number of blogging sites out there. Most are pretty easy to operate and have tons of choices for layouts to keep it fresh.
Take a risk! Click on one of the links below to start your own blog now!!
wordpress.com - Top of the line easy blog site. Supposedly the best out there...And it's Free!

blog.com - unlimited bandwidth

Blogger - 1st site used by me to blog. Very easy to work with.

tumblr. - Free publishing app for iPhone so you can blog while you're waiting for the bus or in class.

yola - Want a little more than a blog? This site hosts a free site with your blog. The layouts are pretty cut and paste but what do you want for free.

This is all for now but please let me know if you find any other free blog/site hosts and how these are for you!

Chemistry

Turns out, starting a blog mob is a little more difficult than I first imagined. Even close friends laughed when I suggested the idea. "A blog club?" "What would the meetings be about?" "I don't have a blog." "I had a blog but I don't have time anymore." *strange looks* "I'll think about it." But there's plenty of grounds to start this club and even more reasons to be a part of it...For instance...
You don't HAVE to have a blog, granted it does allow you to interact more, your support as a commentator will be greatly appreciated.
After the surge of blogs from '99-'03 the pace of blog creation has started to slow a bit and is now less of a dorky fad and more of a means to express your ideas, slightly removed from but still similar to facebook or twitter.
Companies across the globe are beginning to adopt blogging as a means for promotion. Want to add something different to your resume? Being a part of a blog club is a great start.
You want to be heard? The internet is a place where the 1st amendment RULES. Anonomously or not you can say what you like and your blog is a place where people who like what you have to say can keep coming back for more.
Did you know bloggers can make money? Draw a crowd and post a couple ads relevant to your interests. Who knows? You might just break the bank.

Are you convinced now? or at least slightly interested? Check out the links below to learn more about blogging! We'd love to have you as a member of the Mob!
